Who Should Attend

Health & Safety Representatives (HSRs) are required to attend SeaCare-accredited training. 

This course has been approved by the Seafarers Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Authority.

     

    Course Objectives

    On completion of the course delegates will

    • An understanding of the structure, purpose and key provisions of the OHS(MI) Act and related legislative instruments 

    • Confidently be able to confidently discuss the above matters

    • Understand the role, function and powers of a HSR

    • Knowledge and skills necessary to carry out the role of a HSR including

    • Representation of crew members

    • Investigation of complaints 

    • Negotiation with the employer

    • Experience in the issue resolution processes 

    • Where and how to obtain information and assistance in dealing with hazards and risks to health and safety

    • Gain practical skills for implementing the HSR role in the workplace

    • Understanding and applying hazard management principles, conducting risk assessments and workplace inspections
