Who Should Attend
Health & Safety Representatives (HSRs) are required to attend SeaCare-accredited training.
This course has been approved by the Seafarers Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Authority.
Course Objectives
On completion of the course delegates will
An understanding of the structure, purpose and key provisions of the OHS(MI) Act and related legislative instruments
Confidently be able to confidently discuss the above matters
Understand the role, function and powers of a HSR
Knowledge and skills necessary to carry out the role of a HSR including
Representation of crew members
Investigation of complaints
Negotiation with the employer
Experience in the issue resolution processes
Where and how to obtain information and assistance in dealing with hazards and risks to health and safety
Gain practical skills for implementing the HSR role in the workplace
Understanding and applying hazard management principles, conducting risk assessments and workplace inspections
