International training provider looks to Humber’s green energy market

A CONSULTANCY and training services company with offices in 12 countries is preparing for more work on its own doorstep as part of the UK’s renewable energy revolution.

East Yorkshire-based Ferriby Group International, which works with businesses across the globe, is positioning itself to support an increasing number of companies operating in the emerging green energy industry.

It comes as offshore wind turbine manufacturers look to build manufacturing plants on the banks of the Humber estuary, close to Ferriby Group International’s UK head office in the town of Hessle, near Hull. These factories will assemble turbines for huge wind farms, planned for the North Sea, and will require a substantial supply chain.

Directors of Ferriby Group International believe the company’s location, and its extensive knowledge of the marine and manufacturing sectors, makes the business perfectly placed to help firms either entering, or already working in, the renewables industry.

The company, and its sister business Ferriby Marine, was established in 1990 by two master mariners to offer a range of consultancy and training services, including on health and safety matters, to ports and shipping firms.

Jane Hathway, general manager of Ferriby Group International, said: “There are a lot of maritime basics involved in the offshore wind sector – whether it’s establishing the process of shipping larger turbines out to sea, safely managing the transfer of marine engineers to these turbines, or coming up with proper environmental systems.

“Our experience working with some of the largest maritime companies around the world, either in terms of training, consultancy or third party auditing, means we are well prepared for helping the renewables industry as it grows in the Humber area and on the east coast of England.”

Ferriby Group International’s services include working with companies on documented management systems that meet the needs of various International Stadardization Organization (ISO) codes – a standard seen by many global renewables companies as a necessary requirement for businesses working throughout the supply chain.

Mrs Hathway said: “We can work with businesses on their quality assurance certification – helping these companies improve their processes and, hopefully, stand a better chance of working in the renewables sector.”

To support Ferriby Group International’s focus on green energy, the business has appointed Footprint Renewables to handle its public relations and marketing

As part of its deal with Ferriby Group International, Footprint Renewables – a Hull-based specialist PR and marketing company that only works in the renewable energy sector – will design a new website for the business.

Karel Newlove, key account manager of Footprint Renewables, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Ferriby Group International in its home region, the Humber, as the area becomes the UK’s capital of green energy.”
