Course Objectives

  • Gain an understanding of the structure, purpose and key provisions of the OHS(MI) Act and related legislative instruments and be able to confidently discuss these matters.
  • To understand the role, function and powers of a HSR.
  • Develop knowledge and skills necessary to carry out the role of a HSR within their workplace including representation of crew members, investigation of complaints, negotiation with the employer, and experience in the issue resolution processes and where and how to obtain information and assistance in dealing with hazards and risk to health and safety.
  • To gain practical skills for implementing the HSR role in the workplace.
  • To understand and be able to apply hazard management principles, conduct risk assessments and workplace inspections.
